Art students at Corby's Lodge Park Academy visit exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts
A group of art students from Corby’s Lodge Park Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were able to spend time with portrait painter, Jonathan Yeo, as he gave them a personal tour of the Royal Academy of Arts.
As part of the exclusive tour, lucky students explored the ‘From Life’ exhibition, which features a range of impressive paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures from a number of world-renowned artists, including Jenny Saville, Gillian Wearing, Antony Gormley and David Dawson.
During their visit, Jonathan spoke to the students about his recent collaboration with the developers of Google’s latest Tilt Brush software, which lets users paint a 3D space using virtual reality technology. The artist explained how this new technique has inspired him to create new artwork and enabled him to explore 3D technology up close.
Sadie Carder, a Year 13 student at Lodge Park Academy, said: “It was amazing to meet Jonathan and see his sculpture and paintings in real life. He explained the reasoning behind his work, and the process he went through to create his sculpture.
“This experience has inspired me to branch out and explore new techniques within my own artwork.”
The personal tour, which was arranged as part of the David Ross Education Trust’s pioneering enrichment programme, comes after students were invited to spend the day at Jonathan’s personal studio last term.
Abbie Owen, Assistant Principal at Lodge Park Academy, said: “This was a great opportunity for our students to witness some of Jonathan’s incredible artwork first-hand and find out more about his inspiration.
“At Lodge Park Academy, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of outstanding opportunities, where students are encouraged to develop their passions and discover their talents.
“It has been a real privilege to be able to offer the chance for our students to work alongside Jonathan, and I am sure that this is an experience they will remember for years to come.”
